Weekend River Update: 4/25/25

Current River temperature is 60°

Sring fever has definitely set in a little bit this week with the warmer temperatures finally.

Between rain and wind we have not had a very good spring to start.

I’m in the same boat as any other contractor who works outside. The crummy spring has put us all a little behind schedule.

There was an extremely large tree in front of burpee museum out in the channel that was a navigation hazard.

It is what is known as a deadhead.

Almost completely saturated enough to sink to the bottom yet still had a little flotation on the end.

The Rock River homeowners association put forth some donation money to have my crew relocated up onto the riverbank.

It was an entire 50 ft tree with a root ball still attached.

It was sitting at a 45° angle in 11 ft of water with only one foot of it showing.

Glad we were able to get that removed before the boating season and eliminate the potential danger to boaters.

We have been getting several days of rain but it has not amounted to much.

With us coming out of a drought the ground soaked up 99% of it so our River has slowly been dropping.

5 ft on the gauge at Latham which is 12 in above drought level.

Temperatures in the 60s this weekend might get a few more boaters out getting their boats wet for the first time this year.

Have a great weekend everyone and be safe.
